Spread The Love Of Cartier.
What does spreading love look like to you? Is it asking how someone's day was? Is it leaving a handwritten note on the kitchen counter? Facetiming till 1am? There are so many ways we do it.
For Cartier back in 1977, spreading love was through this watch. After consolidating their London, New York and Paris boutiques, the brand's new owners were looking to expand Cartier to a worldwide audience. They wanted to give everyone a taste of the brand by providing an affordable alternative to their solid gold flagships. Alas, the Must de Cartier collection was born.
This Tank model, in true mint condition, looks like it just emerged from the safe after a long beauty sleep. It's living proof to why you should never rush your partner while they're getting ready.
The perfectly preserved burgundy dial is deep, rich and simply gorgeous. While classic Tanks commonly have a white dial with roman numerals and minute markers, this colour on a minimalist dial is a way to a stand out. It's just different. It's equally timeless as Cartier recently reissued this exact model back in 2021, 44 years later.
While this timepiece was originally marketed as an entry level to the brand, it is undoubtedly still luxurious. It is made out of sterling silver (a precious metal) and plated with a thick 20 micron layer of gold, paling today's standard of just 5 microns. They certainly don't make them like they used to. The watch also sports a manual 78-1 movement, a rare find as majority Must de Cartier Tanks are quartz based. The original burgundy lizard strap matches the dial and is completed with a Cartier ardillon buckle. Clearly no details were missed.
Next time you go out spreading love, take a glance at your wrist and fill yourself up first.
This watch is in mint condition.
The large case shows little signs of wear with minor hairline scratches at the case back from case handling over the years. There are small spots of patina at the case back.
The glossy lacquer dial is immaculate with no imperfections. The hands, crown and crystal all share the same condition.
The leather strap is an original Cartier lizard leather strap in like-new condition. The gold lettering, which are known to fade very quickly, are still present and fresh. The strap features an original Cartier buckle in like-new condition.
The manual wound movement has been recently serviced (likely its first) and is keeping accurate time.
